On Monday, November 4th at 4 PM, the exhibition “VIIEL VIISIL ” will open in the foyer of Ugala Theatre in Viljandi. The exhibition will remain open until December 17th.
Artists Eva Jakovits, Kadi Pajupuu, Marilyn Piirsalu, Ülle Saatmäe, and Aune Taamal are pioneers in experimental contemporary Estonian textile art. Each artist brings a unique perspective, themes, and sensitivities, and each has a distinct and recognizable style. Within this quintet, each participant has their own strength, dimension, and tone. Together, their works provide an inspiring example of sharp thought and creative freedom in material expression, blending seamlessly in a supportive and complementary collaboration.
The exhibition is part of the events celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Estonian Textile Artists' Association. The timing of its arrival in Viljandi also aligns with a significant milestone for Estonian textile art: thirty years ago, the National Textile Department was established at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. This exhibition, presenting the diversity of contemporary Estonian textile art, is a fitting event for this small city, where heritage technology is studied at an academic level.
