Exhibition dates: 6 February – 7 March 2025
Opening: 6 February at 16:00
For the twelfth time, an exhibition of Estonian textile art will take place in the White Hall of the Riga Latvian Society House. In this distinguished building, the Estonian Month has traditionally been celebrated in February for many years. The exhibition, along with concerts and numerous other cultural events, has become an established and long-standing tradition.
The title of this year’s exhibition of Estonian textile art carries multiple meanings. The works of nine artists invite viewers to recall the past, reflect on the present, and also look toward the future. Textile art is a field that values traditions, skills, and craftsmanship, yet today it increasingly serves as a space for experimentation and innovation.
These are artists who, throughout their creative journeys, have remained in constant movement. Belonging to different generations, each has developed a personal artistic language, choice of material, and thematic focus. The magic of woven tapestry is valued above all by the artist, yet a knowledgeable audience is equally able to appreciate it. At the same time, technical and technological possibilities continue to evolve over time, offering each artist the challenge and opportunity to occasionally transform their creative approach.
The works presented in this exhibition reveal a wealth of discoveries. Visitors may encounter diverse creative techniques and sources of inspiration, carefully developed compositions, sensitive execution, refined materials, and thoughtfully explored color palettes. One can notice intriguing experiments and technical finesse or simply admire the unique beauty of the tapestry weave.
The changing landscapes of creative practice are significant, perceptible, and compelling — yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
