NOMINEES

Maasike Maasik

AWARD NOMINEE
Textile Artist of the Year
2023

Maasike Maasik`s tapestry exhibition "Contemplations" at the Tallinn St. John's Church gallery (December 9, 2023 - January 15, 2024) was a vibrant, passionate, honest, and engagingly beautiful display of classic artwork. It is particularly gratifying that the artist had the strength to weave new tapestries in this demanding and challenging field, executed with exceptionally intricate technical solutions and a highly distinctive style. The artists´ tapestries are as precious as gemstones, their colors gleaming and sparkling, forming wonderful harmonies. Behind each tapestry lies a mysterious story, offering interpretations and food for thought.

Textile Artist of the Year
2023

The exhibition "Tekstiks ja tagasi" by Kadi Pajupuu and Marilyn Piirsalu held from September 21, 2023, to October 21, 2023, enchanted us with the creative expression and synergy between the two artists. Their "dialogue" is so balanced that one does not overshadow the other; their similarities and differences are naturally harmonized, complementing each other mutually.

Kadi Pajupuu's remarkable inventions in various materials, most of which are not yarn or fabric, come across as stimulating, surprisingly poetic, and emotionally charged textiles. The unique atmosphere and energy exhibited were encouraging, moving, and very sincere.

AWARD NOMINEE
Textile Artist of the Year
2023

At the exhibition "Tekstiks ja tagasi" held from September 21, 2023, to October 21, 2023, Marilyn Piirsalu showcased fabrics woven on the axis invented by Kadi Pajupuu, employing an authorial technique reminiscent of tapestry.

These fabrics intertwine elements that reference the long history of tapestry with completely modern techniques and fresh sensibilities. They are intelligently woven pieces that convey a sense of vulnerability and unique beauty. Piirsalu's works are sensitive, expressive, and technically intriguing. She observes and captures everyday situations, portraying people on her carpets with a playful ease. The carpets are woven in a novel weaving technique, adding lightness to the works and rendering the backgrounds of the compositions vibrant and rich in shades.

Maryliis Teinfeldt-Grins

AWARD NOMINEE
Textile Artist of the Year
2023

The year 2023 was fruitful for Maryliis Teinfeldt-Grins, as she created works based on creative exploration and presented the exhibition "Memories of Great Emotion" at the Vana-Võromaa Cultural Center. Maryliis's embroidery series, inspired by landscape memories, where each piece is a narrative journey or spatial practice traversing various landscapes, is clear, brightly radiant, and extremely charming.
