The exhibition „Flying carpet and other findings“ by Ingrid Helena Pajo at HOP gallery opens on Thursday, June 13th, h 18.00. Exhibition will remain open until July 9th.

"Flying carpet and other findings" brings together works by Ingrid Helena Pajo from the series "Carpets of ten thousand thoughts" and "Damp cloth of grey blur". In the first series, the artist has woven textiles on weaving looms, keeping in mind the wisdoms of oriental rug weaving. In the second series, the various findings of archaeological museums of Athens and Rome are painted on the textiles, drawing attention to ancient and primitive elements that in the history of the world's visual culture keep repeating, but whose meanings vary from culture to culture and whose original thoughts and functions can only be speculated on. The two series are connected by tapestries, found things and other artefacts that all together tell the story of the artist, the material, the textiles and the world.


Ingrid Helena Pajo (b. 1996, Tallinn) is an artist whose work encompasses collection and early textile techniques such as weaving, spinning and dyeing, merged together with the elements of visual arts, other traditional crafts and found objects. On the whole she’s interested in the direct contact with the raw fibres, delving into the sense and the nature of the subject. Found materials become an integral part of this discovery, drawing the trajectory of the journey between locations, handwork and bricolage. Borrowing a thought from Ursula Le Guin, she is questioning if settling in, making tools and things and being free are mutually exclusive. Ingrid is a graduate of the Textile Master’s Program at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
